We are a Dark Age reenactment group based in Leeds, West Yorkshire in the UK. We are a regional group of The Vikings, the oldest Dark Age reenactment society in the UK. Whilst being based in Leeds we have members from all over Yorkshire. We meet regularly to train, discuss forthcoming events, exchange craft skills and most importantly have fun! As part of the The Vikings we provide both battle reenactment and living history displays for events all over the country. We participate in both major events where the entire society participate and our battle reenactments can see over 200 fully armed and highly trained warriors take to the field, with well over 50 tents being pitched in the village and smaller local events such as school fetes where we may be the only group present. In both cases we aim to demonstrate daily life as it would have been in the period as authentically as possible, with combat entertaining the public and living history educating them. In our village you will find characters from a wide range of social strata, from lowly thralls (slaves) hurrying on their errands, to mighty warriors fresh from the field, from humble housewives preparing the evening meal, to well educated clergymen tending their flock, from unruly children playing amongst the tents to the King himself. We are always looking for new recruits. Display combat is restricted to those over the age of 16 with parents in the society (or over 18 otherwise). Children 14 and over can join the Fostrar and participate on the battlefield in non combat roles such as water carriers. Younger children can wander around the village and take part in Kiddivike, a fun activity where children get to beat up our warriors. Women are welcome on the battlefield (in fact some of our most feared warriors are female). Don't want to fight? Not a problem. There are plenty of jobs that need to be done in the village, and most of the warriors remember that if it wasn't for the unsung heroes in the village there would be no warriors on the field.
